Tennessee Association For Health, Physical Education, Recreation & Dance

Welcome

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance website. The purpose of the website is to provide our members and visitors with information about the association, the leadership, and the contributions being made to improve the lives of all Tennesseans. You can also join us on Facebook and Twitter (@tahperd).

Last year's theme was "Be Toad-ally Active" and we took that challenge. We had a fantastic TAHPERD conference with over 700 people attending. We also offered several workshops throughout the summer for the newly adopted elementary student growth measures. This year's theme is "Give Me Tenn." We encourage all Tennesseans to embrace ten habits to healthier living:

1.   Less talk, more action
2.   Less fried, more fresh
3.   Less stress, more laughter
4.   Less driving, more walking
5.   Less soda, more water
6.   Less alone, more together
7.   Less sugar, more fruit
8.   Less screen time, more play time
9.   Less worry, more sleep
10. Less excuses, more exercise

There are many great opportunities to make a difference in your school, our association, and the state . Consider being involved with Let's Move Active Schools, Jump for Heart/Hoops for Heart, or leadership. Now is a great time to use your strengths and experience to serve on a TAHPERD committee. We have a strong leadership team and are always looking for others to help build a better association. If you would like to serve in any way, please feel free to contact me at alysia.jenkins@wcs.edu.

I hope you will consider this your personal invitation to attend the annual convention at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro on October 25-27, 2015. "Give Me Tenn" will be an opportunity to network, get new ideas, and be rejuvenated. I also encourage you to share your best practices and new ideas as a presenter at convention. Check the convention link to find proposal and registration forms as they become available.

I am excited about this opportunity to work alongside each of you to make TAHPERD the best professional association and resource for each of us. Please check back often for updates, workshop information, and important links.

Sincerely,
Alysia Jenkins
TAHPERD President 2015
