2009 CONVENTION PROGRAM (latest updated schedule)

The Annual Convention is the highlight of TAHPERD’s year, bringing together hundreds of professionals demonstrating their expertise in activity-based professions (e.g., coaching, coordinated school health, dance, fitness, health, physical education, sport management, and recreation).   The purpose of the convention is to enable practitioners to share their knowledge-base and activity ideas with other professionals in the field and therefore enhance the experiences that our professionals are able to provide to respective audiences.   The convention program consists of a variety of session types, including activity sessions for teachers, roundtable discussions for administrators, and pre-convention workshops for coaches and teachers of health and physical education.

Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro will be hosting this year’s convention.  Pre-convention workshops start Sunday afternoon on November 1st.  TAHPERD-related professional opportunities have increased dramatically in Tennessee over the past few years and the convention program will offer a multitude of sessions each hour to meet the demand.  Monday’s schedule includes nine sessions per hour from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm with the Keynote address delivered just prior to lunch.  Tuesday offers sessions from 8:00 to 12:00 with the awards luncheon and grande finale starting at noon. 

Embassy Suites is providing TAHPERD a block of suites that will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Members can reserve suites by calling 615-890-4464 (group code is “AHR”) or contacting www.murfreesboro.embassysuites.com.  The room rates are $139 per night for Single/Double, Triple, or Quad (up to 4 persons in each of the rooms) and includes buffet and ‘made to order’ breakfast each morning.    Hotel rooms must be reserved by October 11th, 2009 and the deadline for early convention registration is October 16th.  Beginning Monday, October 26, convention registration will only be available on-site.  The 2008 convention was a huge success and we look forward to seeing you again this year at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro for this year’s event!
