POSTER PRESENTATION PROPOSALS:

All graduate and undergraduate students in Tennessee programs related to TAHPERD are encouraged to submit Poster Presentation Proposals to Dr. Todd Layne via email (telayne@memphis.edu) by September 26, 2014, to be a part of our 45th Annual TAHPERD Convention, held at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro, TN. Posters should be based on research accomplished by health/sport/physical activity-related degree-seeking students which expands, guides, and enriches our profession. In the past we have had posters based on research that TAHPERD members were able to learn about and supplement their base of knowledge in all of our content areas. Poster presentations will likely take place on Monday, October 27th with the author(s) standing at the poster to answer questions from viewing members. Posters will continue to be displayed on provided easels until the end of Monday's programs. Authors will not need to stand by the poster during this time. By October 3rd, students will receive an email communicating submission status and additional instructions regarding the presentation (e.g., poster size, scheduled presentation time).

Submission requirements are as follows:

1.  Title and brief abstract (150 word limit - Word doc) explaining the problem, method, results, and conclusions.

2.  Name, university, degree program and expected graduation date.

3. Contact information - email address and phone.

4.  Must be current TAHPERD member and formally register for the convention.

2014 CONVENTION PROGRAM

The Annual Convention is the highlight of TAHPERD’s year, bringing together hundreds of professionals demonstrating their expertise in activity-based professions (e.g., coaching, coordinated school health, dance, fitness, health, physical education, sport management, and recreation). The purpose of the convention is to enable practitioners to share their knowledge-base and activity ideas with other professionals in the field and therefore enhance the experiences that our professionals are able to provide to respective audiences.

The 2014 convention is shaping up to have a full agenda of sessions on Monday and Tuesday. Both days promise to have the potential of 85+ sessions, activities, lectures, panels, and poster sessions. Sunday will again offer several workshops from 1-4 PM, providing activity sessions for elementary through high school teachers and including guest speaker Keith Willis, former NFL player, and Charla Parker, former national Teacher of the Year. Monday sessions will begin at 7 AM and go through 5 PM, Tuesday's sessions go from 7 AM through noon with a closing session from 12-2 PM. All convention sessions will take place at the Embassy Suites Convention Hotel. Please check the TAHPERD web page in October for specific session titles and times of all convention activities.

Embassy Suites is providing TAHPERD a block of suites that will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Members can reserve suites by calling 615-890-4464 (group code is “HPE”) or contacting www.murfreesboro.embassysuites.com.  The room rates are $139 per night for Single/Double, Triple, or Quad (up to 4 persons in each of the rooms) and includes buffet and ‘made to order’ breakfast each morning. Hotel rooms must be reserved by October 6, 2014.  Beginning Tuesday, October 14, convention registration will only be available on-site.  The 2013 convention was a huge success with over 700 in attendance. We look forward to seeing you again this year!
